would be great if there was a way to sync the calendar with things like outlook or thunderbird

Must confess I don't know if outlook/exchange will read iCal these days. I expect Outlook 2007 (latest?) would support it.. but you could go find out?

Alternatively create a wiki page (opencats.org/wiki) and start a wish-list for devs...
